Brass and folk tunes drifting across still water as the light over Pilatus turns from gold to grey.
The pavilion on Kurplatz sits between Schweizerhofquai and Nationalquai, close enough to the water that gulls settle on the railing mid-performance. Built in 1908 in a geometric Jugendstil style, it once hosted a sixty-piece spa orchestra playing twice a day, and the tradition of live music here has not stopped since.
From May to the end of September, weather permitting, musicians take the stage on Tuesday and Friday evenings and Sunday mornings. The programme moves between folk, big band and jazz, with the occasional alphorn ensemble. Entry is free. Locals bring a blanket or claim a bench, order a coffee from a nearby kiosk, and let the set carry into the evening as the light over the lake fades.
No ticket, no fixed seating plan. Just a stroll along the promenade until the music finds you.
