An Erard piano still stands where Wagner once composed, the lake close enough to hear.
Ufschötti
Bare feet, lake, sand, and the Alps standing quietly across the water.
Ufschötti sits between the motorboat harbour at Alpenquai and the sailing boats moored off Tribschenhorn, a few minutes' walk south-east of Lucerne's main station.
The park is unassuming: wide lawns shaded by mature trees, a boules court, and a sandy beach nearly 200 metres long that gives Lake Lucerne something close to a coastline. There is no entry fee and little infrastructure beyond a kiosk, WC facilities, and gravel paths wide enough for wheelchairs.
Locals bring their own barbecues in summer, or use the electric grill that runs from nine in the morning until ten at night. Frisbees cross the grass, badminton nets go up between the trees, but most people simply lie down and look at the water.
The bathing season runs roughly from Easter to the start of November, when the park closes for winter. Werkhofstrasse, on bus lines 6, 7 and 8, is the nearest stop.
