A lakeside village where the roses bloom and the ferry arrives on time, always.
Weggis sits on the north shore of Lake Lucerne's eastern arm, sheltered from north winds by the Rigi massif above. Because of this shelter, the climate is unusually mild: palms grow on the promenade, the roses bloom two weeks earlier than anywhere else in central Switzerland, and in late autumn the village still holds a warmth that the open lake has long since lost.
The village is quiet in the way that places become quiet when they have been receiving visitors long enough to stop trying. A harbour where the paddle steamers call. A promenade for walking in the evening. A handful of hotels that have been here long enough to feel established rather than fashionable.
The cable car to Rigi Kaltbad takes 12 minutes from the village centre. It's one of the better twelve minutes in the region.
